National Archaeology Educators Conference

National Archaeology Educators Conference
and 16th Biennial Coordinators Conference

Theme:  Excellence in Archaeology Education: Investigating Rock Art as Cultural Communication

What can archaeology education do for YOU?  We invite all archaeology educators including classroom teachers, archaeologists, museum educators, college students, indigenous people and other descendant community members, and anyone else who is interested in archaeology education!

The conference is professional development for the Project Archaeology network of state coordinators, master teachers, facilitators, and others who are interested in joining us to connect people to the past to protect and honor our shared cultural heritage. Project Archaeology can help you achieve excellence in archaeology education wherever you teach: K-12 classrooms, museums, youth programs, and undergraduate education. We train you to deliver high-quality archaeology education to your community through curricula, workshops, and lesson presentations.

REGISTER TODAY (secure payment  through  SUU)

The conference provides professional development through sessions, workshops, field trips, and indigenous speakers. There are many opportunities for networking and mentorships. Plus, we connect you with award-winning educational materials!

Networking with peers and mentors makes this conference valuable now and in the future.  This year we will focus on how Project Archaeology can help you achieve excellence in archaeology education through visiting rock art sites, hearing cultural perspectives, and experiencing hands-on lessons in the classroom and at archaeological sites.

What will our network learn and do?

  • How to record rock art - informal learning at Black Point archaeological site
  • Use observation, inference, and critical thinking skills to determine an artist’s message
  • Indigenous rock art interpretation at Fremont Indian State Park
  • Hike to observe Hundred-Hands Pictograph Site
  • Create rock art with two different hands-on techniques
  • Indigenous and archaeologist perspectives on rock art
  • How to effectively teach difficult history and multiple perspectives
  • Showcase rock art sites from around the world as possible Project Archaeology investigations to include in our rock art curriculum database.

What will the network accomplish?

  • Develop additional Investigating Rock Art Final Performance of Understanding
  • Establish Project Archaeology Centers of Excellence
  • Connection and collaboration with other archaeology educators
  • Create state plans to develop rock art investigations
