SUMMARY:Archaeology of a Little House on the Prairie
DESCRIPTION:Discover the past through evidence from a rock art site in Alabama! \n\n	Join us for a three-day educator workshop to explore the intersections of art\, culture\, and the past. The Project Archaeology: Investigating Rock Art curriculum engages upper-elementary teachers and their students. The curriculum guides students through a complete archaeological investigation of Painted Bluff\, a Native American rock art site that overlooks Lake Guntersville near Huntsville\, Alabama. The course and curriculum will teach integrative\, inquiry-based methods for social studies and art instruction. Registration is open to all interested educators. Teachers working in upper elementary settings are especially encouraged to register. \nOnly 16 spots available!  Registration coming soon! Express your interest in attending the workshop by completing this Google Form. The workshop instructors will notify you by email when registration is open. \n\nA curriculum guide that aligns to state standards\nEach lesson as a learner through modeled instruction\nA special presentation by Dr. Jan Simek\, an archaeologist who worked at the Painted Bluff site\nA cultural presentation by a descendant community member\nTwo field trips to archaeological sites in Florence\, Alabama\n\nFlorence Mound Museum\nPope’s Tavern Museum\n\n\nArchaeology in action at Pope’s Tavern\nAn optional field trip to Oakville Indian Mounds in Danville\, Alabama*\n\nLight refreshments and beverages will be provided all three days of the workshop. \n*Transportation is not provided for the optional field trip. Workshop participants are encouraged to carpool. The commute between Florence and Danville is approximately 1 hour (43 miles) each way. \nInstructors for the course are Jennifer Knutson (University of South Alabama Archaeology Museum)\, Sarah Bennett (Stetson University)\, and Lianne Bennett (Volusia County Schools).
