SUMMARY:Dig Into Inquiry
DESCRIPTION:3rd-8th Grade Three Day Teacher Workshop\n\n	Discover new ways to engage students with the past through hands-on scientific inquiry of social studies content. Explore a midwestern wickiup shelter and learn about the Ojibwe and Meskwaki cultures of the Midwest region (Michigan\, Wisconsin\, Minnesota\, and Iowa). \nLearn first-hand how to help students engage in inquiry-based learning through cross-curricular\, student-centered lessons\, place-based experiences\, and meaningful interactions with Indigenous educators. The Project Archaeology: Investigating Shelter curriculum is aligned to 3-5th grade standards and helps educators expand and deepen social studies content for elementary and secondary students. \nAt this workshop participants will \n\nexperience each lesson as a learner through modeled instruction\ngain new perspectives from Indigenous presenters\nanalyze historic data related to authentic archaeological sites\ndiscover new ways to engage students at museums and archaeological sites\n\nThe workshop will take place at the Seaborg Center on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette\, Michigan July 14-16\, 2026.      DOWNLOAD THE FLYER \nCurriculum books\, a special interactive presentation by Nashke Games to learn the Ojibwe language\, and a cultural presentation by a local Ojibwe educator are included in the registration fee.
