Art and monuments are a hallmark of human culture, the likes of which are constantly changing with society. In this free stand-alone lesson, Understanding Monumentality Through Art, students grades 7-12 will investigate monuments, consider their place in the public sphere, and learn the history of public art. Classrooms will learn and discuss modern Tlingit/Unangax̂ art created by Nicholas Galanin. Culture, technology, modern expression, and decolonization are all central concepts in this lesson.
